PPD civil society group met today to dialogue on the Lessons Learned & Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) and other State efforts but abandoned, towards transitional justice and long term peace.

Amidst heavy rains, floods and winds the PPD civil society group met today to dialogue on the Lessons Learned & Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) and other State efforts but abandoned, towards transitional justice and long term peace.
The PPD team, though did not attend the expected number due to extreme weather condition, the fruitful, healthy but heat yet meaningful dialogue conducted on,
– LLRC
– ONUR
– OMP
– 13th Amendment through Indo- Sri Lanka peace accord,
– Proposal for demolish Executive Presidency and the adopting new constitution,
Though those efforts were futile as no effective and genuine effort to implement and enforce them in the country.
The participants challenged civil society as the citizens are in apathy situation while the issues are continuing. So, group agreed to raise awareness on above subject areas to awakening the society towards seeking longlasting solution.
For this reason, group agreed,
– to conduct series of seminars in Mannar, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Galle and Gampaha areas,
– request a meeting with the chairperson of the Organization for National Unitu and Reconciliation (ONUR),
– series of media briefing and campaign on demanding to execute Supreme Court order to conduct provincial council elections,
– launch a signature campaign to collect 10,000 signatures with the aim of building wider awareness among general public,
– hand over signatures on international peace day to presidential secretariat and ministry of justice,
So, we salute our civil society actors as their courage, commitment to continue the efforts for peace building and reconciliation process deligently.
