INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY CELEBRATION

The IWD- 2025 program launched by NAFSO Sri Lanka which was held on 04th April, 2025 began with a mass action of Street Protest, March and Rally with the participation of 550 men and women and activists.
The theme of the Campaign was “Empower Women, Empower the World” was the main focus of the campaign which addressed the issues of food producers of Fishers, Farmers, Milk Producers, War Affected Women, Small holder food business Women, and small vendors.
During the campaign several men, organizational activists expressed their strong solidarity to address women’s issues.
Manoj Silva of Polonnaruwa miridiya Organization said, “Women’s struggle is men’s struggle too. How can women fight their issues in isolation. It is a collective struggle.”
Kalanthar Issadeen Issadeen of DIFSO – Ampara said, “Our strength of our organization is active women leadership. Through IWD, we motivate them and make strong leaders through interacting each other.”
Channa de Silva of Southern Fisheries Organization said, “We are moving forward with women empowerment. Their contributions bring us the strength to our movement. We take all progressive steps to building capacities of our women leadership.”
Ajith Rupasinge, Praja Sahayogitha Forum -Kurunegala said, “We are happy to see the progress being made the women’s movement of NAFSO Sri Lanka. It is significant growth we experienced past years and we will be a strength building grass root bases.”
Pirathas Singarasa, Mullai Difso said, “We are happy to see the leadership of women which is our strength. This is only our representation though we need to focus attention to make more participation and engagements.”
Nuzaik Ahamed of DIFSO Batticaloa said, “It is very important small scale food producers collectively demand for #foodsovereignty. We are the small food producers feed the nation. So, our efforts should be more focused and effective further.’
Herman Kumara Wijethunge Convener of NAFSO said, “We feel there is a strong support to our efforts for empowerment on women towards building food sovereignty movement.”
