Providing equipment for the livelihood upliftment of housewives in Matara District

Empowering the fundamental rights of women and empowering them to
uplift their livelihood is a significant role of the women’s movement of the
National Fisheries Solidarity Movement. Realizing this task, the National
Fisheries Solidarity Movement provided livelihood assistance to 15 housewives
and selected women leaders from 06 selected villages in the Matara District on
December 19th, 2020. The event was held at the Matara District
Fisheries Office.

In the Matara District mainly small shops, food productions are
also tailoring housewives are also engaged in these industries. In order to
empower the livelihood of women, equipment was provided to improve their
livelihoods through these industries.

Today, Matara Rural Women’s Committees create district women’s
activities and encourage women’s income streams. The main objective of this
program is to create a self-sufficient by raising the income level of the
housewife in Matara.

National Fisheries solidarity Movement, Mr. Anthony Jesudasan, Coordinator of
Peace and Reconciliation for the People, of the National Fisheries solidarity
Movement.

Mr. L.Y Wasanatha, Coordinator of the southern Fisheries
Organization in Matara District and Mr.Gamage, Mr.Maduka Sampath, Mr.Sahan
Isanka, Mr.Ananda, four community animators were also present on the occasion.
