The concept and practice of Self Sufficient Small Scale Food Producer Units have been introduced to rural women in Polpithigama area with the commitment of Praja Sahayogitha Sansadaya.The women and youth engage the SSSSFPU program and to contribute to achieve one of a goal of overcome rural poverty. The saffron is one of the most expensive food items as it banned the imports. So the women who engage in saffron cultivation get some income these days for their survival.At the same time small Scale fish tanks provide income for youth though they are not meant for food for people but export as ornamental fish.Sanjeewa Sampath of Praja Sahayogitha Sansadaya says, “These are small activities which we promote for the survival of our members in rural economies where there is no opportunities for earn for their day today lives. Though we can’t say we contribute social transformation process, we assure the survival of rural poor.”These programs contribute to provide some income to the rural people and their survival.
