NAFSO Sri Lanka facilitated the meeting between NPFPU and Eastern Province fishers and Sectoral Oversight Committee of the parliament to Allieviating the impact of the Economic Crisis and discuss about the issues of fisheries sector and submitted a memorandum based on 5 major issues the Sri Lankan fishing community began to advocate launched from 1st December, 2023.
This dialogue was attended fisher leaders from 4 coastal districts of Northern province of Mannar, Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu and 3 districts of Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara.
Newman Anesley, the coordinator, People to People Dialogue (PPD) said, "this was a very good opportunity to our fisher people, in particular highlight the North and East Provinces fishers. However, I felt three things,"
1. We would have submitted our memorandum with the signatures collected,
2. We would have organized a preparatory meeting in order to come to consensus over our alternative solution.
3. We would have brought at least 2 women leaders to include our delegation.
Now our aim is to organize the agreed Round Table Dialogue between Northern Fishers and the MPs of the Northern province originally. However, our attempt is to organize this dialogue bringing Eastern province fishers onboard.
නැගෙනහිර පළාතේ ධීවරයින්, ආර්තික අර්බුදයේ බලපෑම සමනය කිරීම සඳහා පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේ ආර්තික අධීක්ෂණ කාරක සභාව සහ NPFU සංවිධානය අතර හමුවක් නැෆ්සො ශ්‍රී ලංකා විසින් සංවිධානය කරන ලදී.
මෙහිදී ධීවර ක්ෂේත්‍රයේ ඇති ගැටලු පිළිබඳව සාකච්චා කළ පසුව ධීවර ප්‍රජාව විසින් 2023 දෙසැම්බර 01 දින එළිදක්වන ලද ප්‍රධාන කරුණු 05ක් මත පදනම් වූ සංදේශයක් ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලදී.
මෙම සංවාදයට උතුරු පළාතේ මන්නාරම, යාපනය, කිලිනොච්චිය සහ මුලතිව් යන වෙරලළබඩ ප්‍රදේශ 04 ක් සහ නැගෙනහිර පළාතේ ත්‍රීකුණාමලය, මඩකළපුව සහ අම්පාර යන දිස්ත්‍රික්ක 03 ක ධීවර නායකයින් සහභාගී විය.
මෙම සාකච්චාවේ සම්බන්ධීකාරක (PPD) නිව්මන් ඇනෙස්ලි විසින් පැවසුවේ මෙය උතුරු නැගෙනහිර ධීවර ජනතාවට ඉස්මතුවීමට ලැබුනු ඉතා හොඳ අවස්තාවක් බවයි.
