The Women Leaders of Jaffna District Voice of Northern Province Women met at Mylitty village and discussed their economic, social situation.
Women expressed their hardships and the pathetic situation of health, food, and nutrition issues of their families. The women expressed the way they are trying to overcome hardships and their efforts to survival.
Yalini, one woman who engage dry fish production and food processing activities said, "It is very difficult to survive with the earnings of my husband. So, we both engage earning some income and run the family. It is something hard that we get loans in each month to cover monthly expenses of my family."
Women are engage in organizing and mobilising activities last decade on their Land issues, livelihoods and security actions. They were part of the Feminist Participatory Action Research #FPAR activities conducted with the support of APWLD - Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development and continue their mobilising work.
Dharma Piriya, the Chairperson of the VNPW who is also coming from the Mylitty village said, "Our members are deep in the poverty as war, followed by economic crisis pushed them to the crisis. The #FPAR gave us understanding through analysis, who are the actors behind the crisis, what are the actions we can take to overcome them, to whom we need to approach for support and more. Now, we have identified some IGP activities to engage and earn some income. We are thankful to NAFSO Sri Lanka and WhyHunger for their support"
The program was facilitated by Simra Hussaindeen and the Jaffana District field activists of @Jeyachitra Darmalingam and Suba Shini Deepa, Newman Anesley, Simran Hussain and Safna Saleem were the NAFSO team attended the field work at Mannar and Jaffna today.
