“Assert Women rights to means of food production to ensure food sovereignty”.

         One of a major part
of the Food Sovereignty Alliance in SL lead world foodless month actions was to
bring to the light of women’s rights in food systems in our society. NAFSO
dedicated 17th October as day of women rights.

        Women in NAFSO network launched programs
physically amid COVID threat under the theme      of
“Assert Women rights to means of food production to ensure food sovereignty”.
Women in several areas drafted a memorandum with the emerged issues from the workshop and handed over the memorandum to Addalachenai, Baddegama, Batticoloa,
Kilinochchi,

         Negombo and Trincomalee DS divisions.

         Nadeeka Jayamali
the SFO- Galle said, “Once our women understand the real meaning of the concept
of Food Sovereignty, they will come forward to assert their rights. It is clear
there is no victory without struggle. Hence this is decisive moment of our
struggle to #Food Sovereignty.”
The Nirosha of
DIFSO- Batticoloa lead the campaign there and said, “We are oppressed many
ways, poverty, unemployment of youth, livelihood issues, environmental
destruction due to illegal sand mining. We as women take the lead to address
these issues collectively and we mentioned them in our memorandum.”

        Lavena Hasanthi,
the women Coordinator of NAFSO appreciated all the efforts of women leaders for
their commitment. “We know it is COVID threat everywhere. But we can’t be
silence seen all these oppression. We will continue our struggle vigorously
coming days, months and years.”
