Workshop on the ‘Blue Economy’
conducted online last week on the topic of ‘Creation of a vast worldwide
economy based on the oceans and associated beaches and the detrimental effects
it has had on fisheries and the general public as well as the environment’.
Some of the sub topics that was discussed were ‘Rapidly rising and
large-scale shipping, the devastating effects on seawater ,fish and the fishing
industry, the dumping of garbage into the sea, the massive tourism along the
coast, and the damage to small-scale fishing communities due to improperly
planned harbors. The use of prohibited devices such as nylon nets, dynamite and
the severe impact of such systems to the fishing industry was also discussed.
It was further emphasized that small scale fishermen as well as
fisher women are facing a serious crisis due to the above mentioned impacts.

සීග්රයෙන් ඉහලයන සහ මහා පරිමාණ නාවුක ගමනාගමනය, ඒ හේතුවෙන් මුහුදු ජලයට, මසුන්ට, මෙන්ම ධීවර කර්මාන්තයට සිදුවන විනාශ කාරී බලපෑම, මුහුදට කසල මුදාහැරීම, වෙරළ ආශි‍්‍රතව සිදුවන දැවැන්ත සංචාරක කර්මාන්තය, නිසි ලෙස සැලසුම් නොකළ වරායන් හේතුවෙන්, කුඩා පරිමාණ ධීවර ජනයාට සිදුව ඇති හානියද ඩයිනමිට්, නයිලෝන් දැල් වැනි තහනම් අම්පන්න භාවිතයද මෙහිදී අවදානයට ලක්විය.
සුළු පන්න ධීවරයා මෙන්ම ධීවර කාන්තාවන්ද මේතුලින් බරපතල අර්බුදයකට ලක්ව ඇති බව මෙහිදී තවදුරටත් අවධාරණය කෙරින.
