World Forum of Fisher People (WFFP) with the
collaboration of National Fisheries Solidarity Movement organized a online
webinar regarding Blue Economy on 27 of August 2020. National Fisheries
Solidarity Movement has organized the webinar in 12 partner organizations in
the coastal areas of the country such as Jaffna, Killinochchi, Mullathive,
Mannar, Matara, Galle, Kaluthara, Negombo, Puttlam, Betticaloa,
Ampara and Trincomale district. Every partner organization has invited to
50 participants or more for the online people tribunal. Different
international organizations, professionals, expertise, academics, community
leaders and individuals participated in the online meeting.
Mrs. JesuRethinam
representing SNEHA organization welcomed and set the objective of the webinar.
Inaugural addresses were made by Rev. Bishop Asiri Perera form Methodist
church in Sri Lanka, Ms.Nadine Nembhard representing WFFP and Ms.Ravadee
Prastercarsouk-SDF. Giving introduction of jury members, Prof. Oscar Amarasinghe,
South African Woman Activist and one member spoke in the event.
A.Gandimathi, one of the members
of the research team that conducted relate to exploring the Socio Economic Political and
Ecological Implications on the Coastal Communities on blue economic in Sri
Lanka presented the finding of the research.

Sasidhran-Former Women Minister, Northern Provincial Council, Rathnasinghem
Muralitharan -victim of constructing Chundikulam National park, Ms. Subashinie

Hilda Jeyamalar representing Women Fish Worker in Negombo and Mr. P.H. Lambert
from Southern fisher in Galle shared their experienced. According to the
conversation, Interim verdict speech was done by Mr. Herman Kumara, National
Convener of National Fisheries Solidarity Movement as a member of Jury.
National
Fisheries Solidarity Movement has organized 12 partner organizations in order
to participate with the online people tribunal. Press Conferences were
organized after the webinar in Galle, Ampara, Negombo, Jaffna and
Batticoloa based on the blue economic. Secretariat staff of NAFSO also jointed
with the partner organizations facilitating the webinar in the particular
districts as well.
